{"id":42,"date":"2020-10-07T10:01:22","date_gmt":"2020-10-07T10:01:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.motservicesessex.co.uk\/blog\/?p=42"},"modified":"2020-10-07T10:01:25","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T10:01:25","slug":"mot-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.motservicesessex.co.uk\/blog\/mot-test\/","title":{"rendered":"MOT Test"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motservicesessex.co.uk\/\">MOT test<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is an annual\u00a0test\u00a0of\u00a0vehicle safety,\u00a0roadworthiness\u00a0aspects and\u00a0exhaust emissions\u00a0required in the\u00a0United Kingdom\u00a0for most vehicles over three years old used on any way defined as a\u00a0<em>road<\/em>\u00a0in the Road Traffic Act 1988.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MOT test was first introduced in 1960 as a few basic tests of a vehicle and now covers 20 different parts or systems on or in the car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Test classification<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The test classes are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Class I<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Motor bicycles\u00a0(with or without side cars) up to 200cc<\/li><li><strong>Class II<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 All motor bicycles (including Class I) (with or without side cars).<\/li><li><strong>Class III<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 3-wheeled vehicles not more than 450\u00a0kg unladen weight (excluding motor bicycles with side cars).<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motservicesessex.co.uk\/Mot-signup.php?class=MOT-class4\">Class IV<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Cars, including 3-wheeled vehicles more than 450\u00a0kg unladen weight, taxis,\u00a0minibuses\u00a0and\u00a0ambulances\u00a0up to 12 passenger seats, Goods Vehicles not exceeding 3,000\u00a0kg Design Gross Weight (DGW),\u00a0motor caravans\u00a0and Dual Purpose Vehicles.<\/li><li><strong>Class V<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Private passenger vehicles, ambulances, motor caravans and dual purpose vehicles with 13 or more passenger seats<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motservicesessex.co.uk\/Mot-signup.php?class=MOT-class7\">Class VII<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Goods vehicles over 3,000\u00a0kg up to and including 3,500\u00a0kg DGW. If a vehicle is presented with a manufacturer\u2019s plate and a &#8216;Ministry plate&#8217; the weights to be used are those on the &#8216;Ministry plate&#8217;.<\/li><li><strong>PSV test (Class VI)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Public service vehicles used for hire or reward with more than eight passenger seats (test conducted by DVSA\/DVA staff their own stations, or at DVSA authorised testing facilities (ATF) or designated premises (DP)).<\/li><li>HGV test\u00a0\u2014 Goods vehicles over 3,500\u00a0kg GVW and trailers over 1,020\u00a0kg unladen weight or 3,500\u00a0kg GVW if fitted with overrun brakes (test conducted by DVSA\/DVA staff their own stations, or at a DVSA authorised testing facility (ATF) or designated premises (DP)).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The MOT test covers the following aspects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Exhaust and emissions<\/li><li>Seat belts<\/li><li>Steering<\/li><li>Windscreen<\/li><li>Bonnet catch<\/li><li>Horn<\/li><li>Number plate<\/li><li>Lights<\/li><li>Brakes<\/li><li>Mirrors<\/li><li>Doors<\/li><li>Seats<\/li><li>Suspension<\/li><li>Fuel system<\/li><li>Body and structure<\/li><li>Battery &amp; Wiring<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0MOT test\u00a0is an annual\u00a0test\u00a0of\u00a0vehicle safety,\u00a0roadworthiness\u00a0aspects and\u00a0exhaust emissions\u00a0required in the\u00a0United Kingdom\u00a0for most vehicles over three years old used on any way defined as a\u00a0road\u00a0in the Road Traffic Act 1988.
